Inside Door Handle Stays Open

SYMPTOM

The inside door handle does not return after being pulled out and released.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The door handle return spring is disconnected.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Reconnect the return spring, and change its mounting point so it will not come loose again.





1. Remove the door handle.





2. Hook the bent end of the return spring into its retaining hole.





3. Lift the straight end of the return spring out of its retaining slot, and put it on the body of the door handle next to the slot.

4. Cycle the door handle several times to make sure the return spring is secure.

5. Reinstall the door handle in the door. Test the operation of the door handle and lock.
