Rear Strut

Removal

1. Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove rear wheel(s).
2. Remove trunk side trim, then strut upper mounting bolts.
3. Remove knuckle protector, then the cotter pin and upper ball joint nut.
4. Install a 10 mm hex nut on ball joint. Ensure nut is flush with ball joint in end.
5. Using ball joint remover No. 07MAC-SL00200 or equivalent, separate ball joint from knuckle.
6. Remove damper mounting bolt, then lower rear suspension and remove strut assembly.
7. Using a suitable spring compressor, compress damper spring enough to remove damper assembly self-locking nut.

8. Disassemble damper assembly as shown in Fig. 5.

Installation

1. Mount damper assembly in a spring compressor.
2. Install bump stop, stop plate, dust cover, dust cover plate, damper spring, spring mounting rubber, damper mounting rubber, collar and damper mounting base on damper unit.
When installing damper mounting base, ensure angle of stud bolt is as shown in Fig. 6.
3. Compress spring and install damper mounting washer and self-locking nut, loosely tighten nut.
4. While holding damper shaft, torque self-locking nut to specification.
5. Lower rear suspension and position damper assembly in its original position.
6. Loosely install damper unit lower mounting bolt.
7. Install damper upper base mounting nuts and torque to specifications.
8. Connect upper arm and knuckle, then torque to specifications.
9. Using a suitable floor jack, raise rear suspension until weight of car is on the damper.
10. Torque lower mounting bolt to specification and install brake hose clamp.
