Ignition Control Module: Description and Operation
Ignition Control Module:
PURPOSE
Interrupts the current in the ignition coil primary windings, allowing stored energy to be released in the form of a high-tension pulse through the secondary windings.
LOCATION
The IGNITION CONTROL MODULE is located in the distributor assembly.
CONSTRUCTION
Molded resin body encasing an integrated electronic switching circuit with external electrical connectors.
OPERATION
Once the control unit has computed a timing setting, based on the signals from the various sensors, the value is converted into a control signal for the ignitor. When the signal again falls (to 0 Volts), the ignitor interrupts the current in the ignition coil primary windings, allowing stored energy to be released in the form of a high-tension pulse through the secondary windings..
