Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
WARNING: Do not smoke during the test. Keep open flames away from your work area. Be sure to relieve fuel pressure while engine is off.1. Place a shop towel under the pressure regulator, then relieve fuel pressure.
a. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
b. Remove the fuel tank filler cap.
c. Use a box end wrench on the 6mm service bolt at the top of the fuel filter, while holding the special banjo bolt with another wrench.
Fuel Filter Service Bolt:
c. Place a rag or shop towel over the 6mm service bolt and SLOWLY loosen the 6mm service bolt one complete turn.
Fuel Pressure Regulator Removal:
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose and fuel return hose.
3. Remove the two 6mm retainer bolts.
4. Remove the fuel pressure regulator.
5. Replace O-ring and reverse procedure to install.
NOTE: Before installing new pressure regulator, lubricate the new O-ring with clean engine oil and position it in grooved opening on pressure regulator sealing surface.
6. Torque pressure regulator mount bolts to 9 lb-ft (12 Nm).
