Impact Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION:
^ Do not damage the sensor wiring.
^ Do not install used SRS parts from another car. When repairing an SRS: use only new parts.
^ Carefully inspect the dash sensors for signs of being dropped or improperly handled, such as dents, cracks or deformation.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then the positive cable.

Installation Of The Short Connector:




2. Install the short connector (RED) on the airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.

Removal Of The Dash Sensor Protector:




3. Pull the carpet back, and remove the dash sensor protector. (For the left side, remove the footrest and door sill molding first.)

Dash Sensor Removal:




4. Remove the 2 mounting bolts, then remove the dash sensor.


INSTALLATION

CAUTION:
^ Be sure to install the harness wires so they are not pinched or interfering with other car parts.
^ Replace a sensor if it is dented, cracked, or deformed.
^ For the SRS to function properly, the right and left sensors must be installed on the proper sides.

1. Be sure the battery cables are disconnected.

Installation Of The Dash Sensor:




2. Install the sensor securely.
3. Reinstall the dash sensor protector and carpet. (On the left side, reinstall the molding, and footrest.)

Removal Of The Short Connector:




4. Remove the short connector from the airbag. Reconnect the airbag connector to the cable reel connector. Attach the short connector to the access panel, then reinstall the panel.
5. Reconnect the battery positive cable, then the negative cable.
6. After installing the dash sensor, confirm proper system operation: Turn the ignition to II; the instrument panel SRS indicator light should go on for about 6 seconds and then go off.
