Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair
1. If the compressor is marginally operable, run the engine at idle speed and let the air conditioning work a few minutes, then shut the engine off and disconnect the battery negative cable.2. Discharge refrigerant using a Refrigerant Recovery/Recycling System, refer to System Service/Discharge.
3. Remove the power steering pump.
Removal Of The Discharge And Suction Hoses:
4. Remove the two bolts, and disconnect the suction hose and discharge hose from the compressor.
CAUTION: Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture out of the system.
Compressor Belt Removal:
5. Loosen the compressor belt tension adjusting bolt, and remove the belt from the pulleys. Remove the two left engine mount bracket bolts, and pass the belt through the gap between the body and left engine mount bracket.
6. Disconnect the compressor clutch 1P connector.
Compressor And Mounting Bolt Removal:
7. Remove the four compressor mounting bolts and the compressor.
Compressor Bracket Removal:
8. If necessary, remove compressor bracket as follows:
- Remove nut, washer and left engine mount bracket.
NOTE: When tightening left engine mount nut, make sure the washer is set properly on the engine mount bracket as shown.
- Remove compressor bracket mounting bolts and bracket.
9. Install the removed parts in the reverse order of removal, and:
- If a new compressor is installed, calculate the refrigerant oil as below and drain through suction fitting on compressor: 120 cc (4 fl-oz) minus contents of old compressor, equals amount to drain from new compressor.
- Replace O-rings with new ones at the pipe joints, and apply refrigerant oil to them.
- Do not damage condenser fins when removing/installing the compressor.
- Adjust the compressor belt, refer to Adjustments/Drive Belts.
- Adjust the power steering pump belt, refer to Adjustments/Drive Belts.
- Charge the A/C system, refer to Heating and Air Conditioning/Service and Repair.
- Test the A/C system performance, refer to Heating and Air Conditioning/Testing and Inspection/Procedures.
