NOTE: The system that could be the source of the symptom are listed and should be checked in the order they are listed, beginning with # 1.

1. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Control System (code 12)
2. TDC/CRANK/CYL Position Sensor (code 4,8,9)
3. Fuel Supply
a. Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
b. Fuel Injector (code 16)
c. Pressure Regulator
d. Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve
4. Engine Control Module (ECM) Module (BU)

NOTE:
(BU) Back-up code used when the MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LAMP is on. Jump the service check connector, if no code is displayed (MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LAMP stays on steady), the back-up system is in operation.

On Canadian models the MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LAMP is the CHECK ENGINE LAMP.
