Air Injection Control Valve: Testing and Inspection




1. On high altitude and California 1500 models with automatic transaxle, disconnect the two No. 26 hoses from vacuum control valve and connect
2. On all models, disconnect air suction hose at air valve and check for vacuum. Vacuum should not be present.
3. If vacuum is not present at idle, proceed to step 3. If vacuum is present, disconnect hose No. 26 at air valve and check for vacuum at hose No. 26.
4. If vacuum is present, replace control switch and repeat test. If vacuum is not present, replace air valve and repeat test.
5. Start engine and quickly raise engine speed to 3500 RPM, then close throttle suddenly. Vacuum should be present.
6. If vacuum is present on automatic transaxle models, test is complete. If vacuum is present on manual transaxle models, proceed to air control solenoid valve test. If vacuum is not present, disconnect vacuum hose No. 26 from air valve and check for vacuum at hose No. 26 during deceleration from 3500 RPM.
7. If vacuum is present, replace air valve and repeat test. If vacuum is not present, check vacuum line to intake manifold forleaks or blockage. If satisfactory, replace control switch and repeat test.
