2. Apply J 36850 to the new gearshift shaft oil seal lip.
3. Gearshift shaft boot onto the gearshift shaft.
Important
- When installing the gearshift shaft boot, make sure the vent opening in the boot is facing downward.
4. Gearshift shaft through the gearshift shaft seal and into the right case.
5. New right differential oil seal into the right case using a J 35538 and a hammer.
6. Apply J 36850 to the new seal lip.
7. Apply J 36850 to the steel ball and gearshift shaft spring.
8. Steel ball and gearshift shaft spring into the right case.
9. Apply a light coat of Loctite pipe sealant GM P/N 1052080, or equivalent, to the threaded portion of the gearshift shaft bolt.
10. Gearshift shaft bolt with washer into the right case.
Tighten
- Gearshift shaft bolt to 13 N.m (10 lb. ft.).
11. Apply Loctite(R) 414 GM P/N 12345493, or equivalent, to the threaded portion of the gearshift arm bolt.
12. Gearshift arm onto gearshift shaft; secure with one bolt.
Tighten
- Gearshift arm bolt to 36 N.m (26 lb. ft.).
