Valve Body Assembly and Installation
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New valve body gaskets with spacer plate on the lower valve body in the following order:
A. Gasket
B. Spacer plate
C. Gasket
Important
- The valve body gaskets and spacer plate MUST be in the correct position for fluid flow through fluid passages. If the gaskets and spacer plate are mispositioned, fluid passages will be blocked and shift failure will occur. Use caution not to tear or damage the valve body gaskets during installation.
2. Lower valve body onto upper valve body carefully aligning both halves with their common bolt holes and making sure the cooler by-pass valve and spring remains in the lower valve body.
3. Carefully turn valve body assembly over.
4. Sixteen upper valve body bolts in the following order:
NOTICE: Torque sequence and specification is very important to valve body operation. If bolts are torqued at random, valve bores may become distorted and inhibit valve operation. DO NOT use air powered tools when assembling the valve body halves.
A. Install two reamer bolts (positioning bolts) designated as (D) in the positions shown in the image, finger tighten only.
B. Install the remaining fourteen bolts according to length as shown in the image, finger tighten only.
Tighten
- All sixteen upper valve body bolts in the order shown in Figure 153 to 6 N.m (53 lb. in.).
NOTICE: When installing valve body to case, make sure accumulators and springs are in their correct positions and all valve body bolts are installed according to length and position. DO NOT use air powered tools when installing the valve body assembly.
5. Valve body assembly to transaxle case aligning manual valve with the shift lever pin.
6. Eleven lower valve body-to-case bolts according to length.
Tighten
- Lower valve body reamer bolts (positioning bolts) (A) and (B) to 12 N.m (106 lb. in.).
- Remaining lower valve body bolts in a diagonal pattern to 12 N.m (106 lb. in.).
7. TV cable assembly to transaxle case.
8. TV cable to throttle valve cam.
