Upper Valve Body Overhaul Procedure

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Four check balls from upper valve body.
2. Neutral drain nozzle from upper valve body.
3. Manual valve from upper valve body.
4. No. 3 valve body key from upper valve body.
5. Pressure regulator valve sleeve from upper valve body.
6. Primary regulator valve plunger from upper valve body.
7. Plate washer from upper valve body.
8. Primary regulator valve spring from upper valve body.
9. Primary regulator valve from upper valve body.
10. Throttle valve cam bolt, throttle cam, throttle valve cam bushing and throttle valve cam spring from upper valve body.
11. Downshift plug from upper valve body.
12. No. 2 throttle valve spring from upper valve body.
13. E-clip retainer from throttle valve in upper valve body.
14. Throttle valve from upper valve body.
15. No. 1 throttle valve spring from upper valve body.

Clean
- All parts thoroughly with solvent and air dry.

Inspect

^ Tool Required:
- J 34673 Flat Gage Bar

1. Upper valve body for:
- Distorted or damaged valve bores.
- Blocked fluid passages.
- Surface warp by placing a J 34673 across the upper valve body mating surface and rotating every 30 degrees checking for surface warp. If upper valve body surface warp exists, replace the upper valve body.
2. All valves, springs and attaching parts for unusual wear or damage. Replace as necessary.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

^ Tool Required:
- J 36850 Transjel Transmission Assembly Lubricant

1. Apply a thin coat of J 36850 to all parts prior to assembly.
2. No. 1 throttle valve spring into upper valve body.
3. Throttle valve into upper valve body.
4. E-clip retainer onto throttle valve in upper valve body.
5. No. 2 throttle valve spring into upper valve body.
6. Downshift plug into upper valve body.
7. Throttle valve cam, throttle valve cam bushing and throttle valve cam spring to upper valve body; secure with throttle valve cam bolt.

Tighten
- Throttle valve cam bolt to 4 N.m (35 lb. in.).

8. Primary regulator valve into upper valve body.
9. Primary regulator valve spring into upper valve body.
10. Plate washer into upper valve body.
11. Primary regulator valve plunger into upper valve body.
12. Pressure regulator valve sleeve into upper valve body.
13. No. 3 valve body key into upper valve body.
14. Manual valve into upper valve body.
15. Neutral drain nozzle into upper valve body.
16. Four check balls into upper valve body.

Inspect
- All valves for smooth operation.
