Countershaft Bearings

NOTICE: When damaged or worn Countershaft bearings are removed from the countershaft, they MUST be replaced with new bearings. Under no circumstances should the damaged or worn bearings be repaired or reinstal led.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

^ Tools Required:
- J 23907 Slide Hammer
- J 29369-1 Countershaft Ball Bearing Remover
- J 29369-2 Countershaft Roller Bearing Remover





1. Countershaft ball bearing snap ring in rear of transaxle case.
2. Countershaft ball bearing backing plate.
3. Rear Countershaft ball bearing using a J 23907 with a J 29369-1.
A. Insert the J 29369-1 inside the bearing and adjust outward until the remover has a firm grasp on the bearing.
B. Gently tap the bearing out using the J 23907 until the bearing is free of the case.





4. Countershaft roller bearing snap ring in front of the transaxle case.
5. Countershaft roller bearing. using the J 23907 with a J29369-2.
A. Insert the J J29369-2 inside the bearings and adjust outward until the remover has a firm grasp on the bearing.





B. Gently tap the bearing Out using the J 23907 until the bearing is free of the case.
6. Countershaft roller bearing spacer.

Inspect
1. Case bores for cracks. scars or overheating.
2. Countershaft for:
- Flat spots or overheating.
- Broken or damaged splines, threads or teeth.
3. Spacer for scoring or unusual wear.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

^ Tools Required:
- J 35537 Countershaft Bearer Installer
- J 707C32 Driver Handle





1. Countershaft spacer knock case.





2. New countershaft roller bearing inter case. Using the J 35537 with the J 7079-2, tap the roller bearing evenly into the case bore.
3. Countershaft roller bearing snap ring.
4. New countershaft ball bearing into case. Using the J 35537 with the J 7079-2, tap the ball bearing evenly into the case bore.
5. Countershaft ball bearing backing plate.
6. Countershaft ball bearing snap ring.

Inspect
- Both new bearings for free rotation and make sure no damage occurred during the installation procedure.
