Troubleshooting Hints

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS
1. Check the hydrometer eye that is built into the Battery before troubleshooting the Starter or Charging System.
^ Green Eye - Battery is charged.
^ Dark Eye - Battery is discharged.
^ Clear or Yellow Eye - Battery fluid is low, replace Battery.
2. Check Battery for overcharge condition such as spewing of electrolyte or yellowing of Battery case.
3. Check that all Starter assembly connections are clean and tight.
4. Check that G100 and G101 are clean and tight.
5. Check BATT Fuse and IG Fuse (in Fuse Box) for continuity.
6. Check IG Fuse (in Junction Block) with a fuse tester.
7. Check for proper Generator drive belt tension.
8. Before component replacement, check for poor connections at related component and in-line harness connector terminal connections.
