Circuit Description
The upshift indicator indicates the best transaxle shift point for maximum fuel economy. The indicator is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and is turned "ON" by grounding the Upshift Indicator control circuit wire from the I/P cluster assembly to the PCM.
If the Upshift Indicator control circuit wire is grounded the lamp will be "ON" all the time. If the circuit is open, the indicator will not light when commanded by the PCM.

Test Description
Number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the Diagnostic Table.
1. The Powertrain OBD System Check prompts the technician to complete some basic checks and store the freeze frame data on the scan tool if applicable. This creates an electronic copy of the data taken when the fault occurred. The information is then stored in the scan tool for later reference.
2. This checks the upshift indicator's operation with the ignition switch in the "ON" position.
