P0705

Transaxle Range Switch Circuit (1 of 6):

Transaxle Range Switch Circuit:

Circuit Description:

The transaxle range switch provides a separate voltage signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for each gear range ("P," "R," "N," "D," "2" and "L"). The PCM uses this information to manage transaxle operation.

DTC Detecting Condition:

DTC P0705 will set if the following conditions are met:

^ The PCM receives no transaxle range switch signal with the ignition switch "ON"
^ Or the PCM receives two or more signals simultaneously while in "D" range on 3rd gear for 5 seconds.

DTC Chart Test Description

Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. Checks the operation of transaxle range switch in the "D" position.
2. Checks the operation of transaxle range switch in the "L" position.
3. Checks the operation of transaxle range switch in the "N" position.
4. Checks the operation of transaxle range switch in the "2" position.
5. Checks the operation of transaxle range switch in the "R" position.
6. Checks for poor terminal contact at the PCM.
7. Checks for a faulty PCM.

24. Checks for a short to voltage in RED wire.
25. Checks for a short to ground in RED wire.
26. Checks for an open in RED wire.
27. Checks for an open in YEL wire.

Diagnostic Aids:

An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Inspect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and for poor terminal-to-wire connections.
