DTC A096 Rear Brake Lamp Circuit Open:

DTC A093 DTC A091 Or A092 Set In Current Or Previous Ignition Cycle:

Circuit Description:
This DTC is designed to isolate the cause of a DTC A095 malfunction and indicate to the driver that ABS is available. If DTC A095 fails with DTC A096, the stoplamps circuit are open. The presence of battery voltage at the stoplamp switch input indicates that a valid stoplamp switch input is still available.

Failure Condition:
DTC A096 can be set only after DTC A095 has been set. If the EBCM detects battery voltage on the stoplamp switch input circuit for 0.5 second, a malfunction exists.

Action Taken:
A DTC AO96 is stored. ABS is not disabled and the "ABS" indicator will not be illuminated.

Test Description:
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. As a result of a malfunction of an additional stoplamp switch circuit DTC, DTC A096 may be set. To insure proper diagnosis, any additional stoplamp switch DTC must be repaired first.
2. This step identifies if the malfunction is currently present in the stoplamp circuit.

Diagnostic Aids:
An "intermittent" malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.

The frequency of the malfunction can be checked by using the enhanced diagnostic function of the TECH 1.

Any circuitry that is suspected as causing the intermittent complaint, should be thoroughly checked for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wiring connections or physical damage to the wiring harness.
