Drive Axle Seal Replace
REPLACE1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel cover or center cap.
3. Unstake drive axle nut.
4. Remove drive axle nut and washer.
5. Remove tire and wheel assembly.
6. Drain transaxle fluid and install two boot protectors tool No. J-28712 or equivalent onto inner and outer drive axle boots.
7. Using a large screwdriver, pry differential side joint away from transaxle.
8. Remove differential side gear snap ring.
9. Remove ball stud and nut, then separate steering knuckle from control arm.
10. Remove drive axle assembly by removing differential side joint from differential side gear.
11. Remove drive axle oil seal from transaxle.
12. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Coat transaxle oil pan drain plug with Loctite pipe sealant part No. 1052080 or equivalent, tighten drain plug to specification.
b. Refill transaxle with fluid and check level.
