Door Locks - Revised Information

(Front/Rear Door Locks and Power Door Locks)

This bulletin is being issued to revise the information found in Section 10-6, Doors, of the 1995-96 Geo Metro Service Manual.

Section 10-6-5 - Front Door

Door Lock

Procedure

Remove

1. Front Door trim. Refer to "Front Door Trim".

2. Water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector".

3. Front window. Refer to "Front Windows".

4. Two screws securing rear guide channel.





5. Disconnect joint of outside handle opening rod (Figure 1).





6. Inside handle rod, inside lock rod and outside lock rod from door lock assembly (Figure 2).

7. Three screws and door lock assembly from door (Figure 2).

Install

1. Door lock assembly to door; secure with three screws (Figure 2).

2. Inside handle rod, inside lock rod, and outside lock rod to door lock (Figure 2).





3. Direct outside handle opening rod joint opening to inside of door (Figure 3).





4. With push rod resting on pin latch of latch assembly, fasten push rod with joint directing opening to inside of door (Figure 4).

5. Check play of push rod by operating outside door handle. If push rod play is not within specification, repeat Steps 3 and 4 (Figure 4).

Adjust

Push rod play 0.5 mm - 1.5 mm (0.02 - 0.06 inch).

Important:
Door lock may not operate correctly if push rod play is not within specifications.

6. Confirm that door does not open when locked and door opens when unlocked.

7. Two screws securing rear guide channel.

8. Window. Refer to "Front Door Windows".

9. Water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector".

10. Front door trim. Refer to "Front Door Trim".

Power Door Lock

Remove

1. Front door trim. Refer to "Front Door Trim".

2. Water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector".

3. Front window. Refer to "Front Windows".

4. Two screws securing rear guide channel.

5. Unclip electrical connector.

6. Disconnect joint of outside handle opening rod (Figure 1).

7. Inside handle rod, inside lock rod and outside lock rod from door lock assembly (Figure 2).

8. Five screws and door lock assembly from door (Figure 2).

Install

1. Door lock assembly to door; secure with five screws (Figure 2).

2. Inside handle rod and lock rod to door lock (Figure 2).

3. Direct outside handle opening rod joint opening to inside of door (Figure 3).

4. With push rod resting on pin latch of latch assembly, fasten push rod with joint directing opening to inside of door (Figure 4).

5. Check play of push rod by operating outside door handle. If push rod play is not within specification, repeat Steps 3 and 4 (Figure 4).

Adjust

Push rod play 0.5 mm - 1.5 mm (0.02 - 0.06 inch).

Important:
Door lock may not operate properly if push rod play is not within specifications.

6. Confirm that door does not open when locked and door opens when unlocked.

7. Connect electrical connector.

8. Two screws securing rear guide channel.

9. Window. Refer to "Front Door Windows".

10. Water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector".

11. Front door trim. Refer to "Front Door Trim".

Section 10-6-12 Rear Door

Door Lock

Remove

1. Rear door trim. Refer to "Rear Door Trim

2. Water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector".

3. Rear window. Refer to "Rear Windows".





4. Two screws securing rear guide channel (Figure 5).





5. Disconnect joint of outside handle opening rod (Figures 5 and 6).





6. Inside handle rod and lock rod from door lock assembly (Figure 7).

7. Three screws and door lock assembly from door (Figure 7).

Install

1. Door lock assembly to door; secure with three screws (Figure 7).

2. Inside handle rod and lock rod to door lock (Figure 7).

3. Direct outside handle opening rod joint opening to inside of door.





4. With push rod resting on pin latch of latch assembly, fasten push rod with joint directing opening to inside of door (Figure 8).

5. Check play of push rod by operating outside door handle. If push rod play is not within specification, repeat Steps 3 and 4 (Figure 8).

Adjust

Push rod play 0.5 mm - 1.5 mm (0.02 - 0.06 inch).

Important:
Door lock may not operate properly if push rod play is not within specifications.

6. Confirm that door does not open when locked and door opens when unlocked.

7. Two screws securing rear guide channel.

8. Push weatherstrip into lower end of door guide channel.

9. Window. Refer to "Rear Door Windows".

10. Water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector".

11. Rear door trim. Refer to "Rear Door Trim".

Power Door Lock

Remove

1. Rear door trim. Refer to "Rear Door Trim".

2. Water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector".

3. Rear window. Refer to "Rear Windows".

4. Two screws securing rear guide channel.

5. Unclip electrical connector.

6. Disconnect joint of outside handle opening rod (Figures 5 and 6).

7. Inside handle rod and lock rod from door lock assembly (Figure 7).

8. Four screws and door lock assembly from door (Figure 7).

Install

1. Door lock assembly to door; secure with four screws (Figure 7).

2. Inside handle rod and lock rod to door lock (Figure 7).

3. Direct outside handle opening rod joint opening to inside of door (Figure 8).

4. With push rod resting on pin latch of latch assembly, fasten push rod with joint directing opening to inside of door (Figure 8).

5. Check play of push rod by operating outside door handle. If push rod play is not within specification, repeat Steps 3 and 4 (Figure 8).

Adjust

Push rod play 0.5 mm - 1.5 mm (0.02 - 0.06 inch).

Important:
