Removal/Installation

Fig. 12 Steering Gear Attaching Bolts And Brackets:
1. Slide driver's seat rearward.
2. Pull back front part of floor mat on driver's side, then remove steering shaft joint cover.
3. Loosen steering shaft upper joint bolt without removing, Fig. 11 .
4. Remove steering shaft lower joint bolt and disconnect lower joint from pinion.
5. Raise and properly support vehicle.
6. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies.
7. Remove cotter pins and castle nuts from tie rod ends.
8. Using tie rod end remover J-21687-02, or equivalent, disconnect tie rods from knuckles.
9. Remove steering gear housing mounting bolts, brackets and steering gear, Fig. 12 .
10. Reverse procedure to install.
