REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly, then remove cylinder head cover.
3. Remove distributor from cylinder head.
4. Remove timing belt as outlined under Timing Belt. Refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt.
5. Position crankshaft sprocket key as shown in, Fig. 9 .
6. On models with spoked camshaft timing gear, position gear so camshaft timing gear pulley pin engages with slot No. 1 on camshaft timing gear, Fig. 10 .
7. On all models, hold camshaft in position by inserting a rod into .39 inch hole in camshaft, then remove camshaft sprocket retaining bolt, Fig. 11 . Place shop cloth under rod to prevent damage to cylinder head surface.
8. Remove camshaft housings to cylinder head attaching bolts and studs, Fig. 3 .
9. Remove camshaft from cylinder head. Hydraulic valve lash adjusters should also be removed and placed in engine oil until installation.

INSTALLATION
1. Pour engine oil into camshaft journal oil holes until oil is emitted from hydraulic valve lash adjuster holes, Fig. 4 .
2. Lubricate valve lash adjusters with engine oil and install on cylinder head.
3. Lubricate camshaft with engine oil, then position on cylinder head with sprocket pin hole positioned as shown in Fig. 12 .
4. On models with spoked (as opposed to solid) camshaft timing gears, install gear so pulley pin engages with slot No. 1 on camshaft timing gear.
5. Lubricate camshaft journal bores in camshaft housing with engine oil.
6. Apply sealant to cylinder head mating surface of camshaft housings No. 1 and No. 3, Fig. 10.
7. Position camshaft housings over camshaft and onto cylinder head mating surface. Arrow on camshaft housing should face camshaft sprocket side of cylinder head. Camshaft housings are numbered from 1 to 3. The housings are positioned on the cylinder head in numerical order, starting with No. 1 at camshaft sprocket side of cylinder head, Fig. 14 .
8. Apply engine oil to camshaft housing attaching bolts and studs, then loosely install bolts and studs. Tighten bolts and studs in sequence shown in Fig. 15 to specifications.
9. Apply engine oil to camshaft oil seal lip, then install seal. Seal surface should be flush with housing surface.
10. Hold camshaft in position by inserting a rod into .39 inch hole in camshaft, then install and tighten camshaft sprocket retaining bolt, Fig. 11 . Place shop cloth under rod to prevent damage to cylinder head surface.
11. Install cylinder head cover.
12. Install timing belt as outlined under Timing Belt. Refer to Timing Components.
13. Install ignition distributor, then install air cleaner assembly.
14. Connect battery ground cable, then adjust ignition timing.
