Displaying & Reading Trouble Codes

IMPORTANT:

^ In order to access transaxle DTCs, the vehicle must be test driven to register an electronic control system malfunction with the TCM. After the TCM stores DTCs, the engine MUST be kept running in order to access DTCs. If the engine is turned off after the road test, the TCM will clear all transaxle DTCs that may have been stored.

The ALDC is a green two cavity connector which is used for accessing transaxle diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). This is accomplished by connecting a test lamp across both cavities of the ALDC and also connecting a jumper wire across both cavities of the transaxle diagnostic enable connector with the engine running. The TCM will then cause the test lamp to flash a coded number sequence.

The number of flashes will equal the first digit of the two digit DTC. A 1.5-second pause will follow, and the second set of flashes will equal the second digit of the two digit DTC. If several DTCs have been stored, a 2.5-second pause will separate each DTC beginning with the smallest number DTC first. If no malfunctions in the electronic control system exist, the test lamp will flash once. A 1.5-second pause will follow. Then, two more one-second flashes indicating a DTC 12. DTC 12 indicates that no malfunctions in the electronic control system exist at this time. DTCs other than 12 indicate a malfunction in the electronic control system.
