Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove two selector lever knob to selector lever attaching screws.
2. Remove six center console attaching screws, then the center console.
3. Remove manual selector cover lamp bulb socket from selector cover.
4. Remove four selector cover to selector lever attaching screws.
5. Disconnect interlock cable end from key release plate on manual selector, Fig. 10 .
6. Remove interlock cable attaching bolt.
7. Disconnect interlock cable from selector lever housing bracket.
8. Remove front carpet retainers and pull back front carpet.
9. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
10. Remove upper and lower steering column mounting nuts and lower steering column.
11. Remove screw and interlock cable retaining clamp from ignition switch.
12. Push release shaft in at ignition switch lock mechanism.
13. Remove cable end from ignition switch, then the interlock cable from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Install cable into vehicle and route it to ignition switch.
2. Push release shaft in at ignition switch and insert cable end.
3. Attach interlock cable retaining clamp to ignition switch and secure with screw.
4. Reposition steering column and install mounting nuts.
5. Install steering column covers.
6. Refit front carpet and install carpet retainers.
7. Attach interlock cable to selector lever housing bracket.
8. Attach cable end to key release plate.
9. Move selector lever to PARK and hold selector button in.
10. Rotate key release plate and insert a small screwdriver through key release plate to hold it in position, Fig. 11 .
11. Allow retaining spring to position interlock control bracket.
12. Tighten interlock cable bolt to specification.
13. Ensure when selector lever is in PARK position that ignition key can be moved from ACC to LOCK and ignition key can be removed from ignition switch.
14. Ensure when selector lever is in any position other than PARK that ignition switch cannot be turned to ACC or PARK.
15. Install manual selector cover onto selector lever.
16. Install manual selector cover lamp bulb socket into cover.
17. Install console, then the selector knob.
