System Diagnosis - Mitsubishi & Nippondenso Charging System

1. Connect a voltmeter across the battery.
2. Start engine and allow to run at 2,000 RPM, then check reading of voltmeter. Voltmeter should read at least 13.5 volts.
3. If voltage reading is not as specified, disconnect battery ground cable.
4. Disconnect alternator B terminal wire.
5. Connect ammeter red lead to alternator B terminal and black lead to disconnected B terminal wire.
6. Connect a voltmeter between alternator B terminal and chassis ground.
7. Connect battery ground cable, then start engine and turn On all accessories.
8. Operate engine at sufficient RPM (approximately 2000 RPM) to obtain maximum alternator current output.
9. If current reading is not within 10 amps of maximum rated output or voltage reading is not 13.5 to 16 volts, repair alternator.
