DTC 33

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Transmission Control Module (TCM) receives an engine speed input from the ignition coil via the noise suppressor filter. The TCM uses this information for calculating shift points.

DTC 33 will set if the following conditions are met:
^ The TCM receives no engine speed signal for more than nine seconds while receiving a vehicle speed input of 30 km/h (19 mph) or more with a throttle position signal indicating throttle valve open more than 28 percent.

TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks for a faulty noise suppressor filter.
2. Checks for an open in the BRN/WHT wire between the ignition coil and the noise suppressor filter.
3. Checks for an open in the BRN wire between the noise suppressor filter and the TCM.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Inspect the TCM harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and for poor terminal-to-wire connections.
