Transaxle Control System
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch provides a separate voltage signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) for each gear range ("P," "R," "N," "D," "2" and "L"). The TCM uses this information to manage transaxle operation and, in addition, provides the ECM with a drive range (RD2L) signal.
DTC 32 will set if the following conditions are met:
^ The TCM receives no PNP switch signal with the ignition switch in "ON" or receives two or more signals simultaneously.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks for a "P" position signal at the TCM.
2. Checks for two or more position signals with the manual selector lever in "P."
3. Checks for an open in ORN/BLK wire between TCM connector C1 and PNP switch connector.
4. Checks for voltage source to the PNP switch on YEL wire.
5. Checks for a "R" position signal at the TCM.
6. Checks for shorts to voltage on PNP switch signal circuits between PNP switch connector and TCM connector C1.
7. Checks for two or more position signals with the manual selector lever in "R."
8. Checks for an open in the RED wire between TCM connector C1 and PNP switch connector.
9. Checks for a "N" position signal at the TCM.
10. Checks for two or more position signals with the manual selector lever in "N."
11. Checks for an open in the ORN/YEL wire between TCM connector C1 and PNP switch connector.
12. Checks for a "D" position signal at the TCM.
13. Checks for two or more position signals with the manual selector lever in "D."
14. Checks for an open in the GRN/RED wire between TCM connector C1 and PNP switch connector.
15. Checks for a "2" position signal at the TCM.
16. Checks for two or more position signals with the manual selector lever in "2."
17. Checks for an open in the GRN wire between TCM connector C1 and PNP switch connector.
18. Checks for a "L" position signal at the TCM.
19. Checks for two or more position signals with the manual selector lever in "L."
20. Checks for an open in the GRN/BLU wire between TCM connector C1 and PNP switch connector.
21. Checks for an open in the YEL wire between C202 connector and PNP switch connector.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Inspect the TCM hamess connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and for poor terminal-to-wire connections.
