Transaxle Control System

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The 2nd brake solenoid is energized and de-energized by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to varying transaxle shift demands. With the 2nd brake solenoid de-energized, line pressure is applied to the 1-2 shift valve. With line pressure applied, the 1-2 shift valve operates, and the transaxle shifts from first to second gear. When the TCM energizes the 2nd brake solenoid, line pressure is relieved, and the 1-2 shift valve does not operate.

DTC 23 will be set if the following condition is met:
^ TCM does not see any voltage drop across 2nd brake solenoid control circuit during attempted solenoid energizing.

TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Places transaxle in a state where 2nd brake solenoid should be energized and checks for battery voltage from TCM to connector C108.
2. Checks for an open in ORN/GRN wire and for a faulty TCM.
3. Checks for proper resistance of 2nd brake solenoid coil and YEL wire from connector C108 to solenoid.
4. Checks for an open in YEL wire between connector C108 and 2nd brake solenoid and for a faulty solenoid.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Inspect the TCM harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and for poor terminal-to-wire connections.
