Transaxle Control System

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The direct clutch solenoid is energized and de-energized by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to varying transaxle shift demands. With the direct clutch solenoid de-energized, line pressure is applied to the 2-3 shift valve. With line pressure applied, the 2-3 shift valve operates, and the transaxle shifts from second to third gear. When the TCM energizes the direct clutch solenoid, line pressure is relieved, and the 2-3 shift valve does not operate.

DTC 22 will set if the following condition is met:
^ TCM sees voltage drop on direct clutch solenoid control circuit to something approaching ()V during attempted solenoid energizing.

TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks for a short to ground in direct clutch solenoid control circuit or for a faulty TCM.
2. Checks for a short to ground in ORN wire between TCM and connector C108.
3. Checks for a short to ground in RED wire between C108 and direct clutch solenoid connector or for a faulty solenoid.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Inspect the TCM harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and for poor terminal-to-wire connections.
