DTC A088 Red Brake Warning Lamp Circuit Shorted To Battery:
Circuit Description:
This DTC identifies a short to battery between the EBCM and the "BRAKE" indicator or an open driver that does not allow the "BRAKE" indicator to be illuminated by the EBCM. This will only occur if an ABS fault is detected that may degrade base brake performance.
Failure Condition:
DTC AO88 can be set only at the beginning of the three second bulb check or when the EBCM turns on the "BRAKE" indicator because of another DTC. If the EBCM detects battery voltage on the "BRAKE" indicator lamp control circuit, a malfunction exists.
Action Taken:
A DTC AO88 is stored. ABS is not disabled and the "ABS" indicator will not be illuminated.
Test Description:
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. This step identifies if the ground circuit to the "BRAKE" indicator is being completed by a source other than the EBCM.
2. This step identifies if the malfunction is currently present.
3. By removing the GAUGE fuse, the voltage source is eliminated. This test indicates if voltage is being supplied from a source other than the GAUGE fuse.
4. This step checks for DTC AO86 also being set.
Diagnostic Aids:
An "intermittent" malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.
The frequency of the malfunction can be checked by using the enhanced diagnostic function of the TECH 1.
Any circuitry that is suspected as causing the intermittent complaint, should be thoroughly checked for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wiring connections or physical damage to the wiring harness.
