Fig. 32 Intermittent Wiper Relay Test Connections:
Low Speed Test
1. Using 12 volt battery, connect positive terminal to blue terminal on motor, and negative terminal to black lead wire Fig. 31.
2. Motor should rotate at 45 to 55 RPM.
High Speed Test
1. Using 12 volt battery, connect positive terminal to blue/red terminal on motor, and negative terminal to black lead wire Fig. 31.
2. Motor should rotate at 68 to 78 RPM.
Park Operation Test
1. Use 12 volt battery, connect positive terminal to yellow/blue terminal on motor, and negative terminal to black lead wire Fig. 31.
2. Using a jumper short the blue/white and blue terminals to each other.
3. Check whether motor shaft stops at a given position. This position must conform to the start position.
4. Repeat step 2 to confirm that shaft stops at the same position.
Checking Brush and Commutator
1. Check continuity between blue terminal and black lead wire.
2. If continuity is poor, check brush to commutator contact area.
3. If contact area is fouled, use suitable solvent to clean area. When surface is coarse or burnt, use sandpaper to polish surface smooth.
4. If necessary, replace brushes. Replace brushes as a set.
