Shift Interlock: Description and Operation

Voltage is applied through the BACK Fuse to the SHIFT LEVER BACKUP AND NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH with the ignition switch in the "ON" and "START" positions. With the manual selector in "P" (park) and the brake pedal depressed, voltage is applied through the closed contacts of the SHIFT LEVER BACKUP AND NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH and the STOPLAMP SWITCH to the SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID. The SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID is permanently grounded at G200 (Hardtop) or G203 (Convertible). With voltage applied, the SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID energizes and releases the manual selector locking mechanism.
