Heater Control Unit - Revised Procedure

Section 1A - Revised Procedure for Heater Control Unit

1992-94 Geo Metro

This bulletin is being issued to replace the information found in Section 1A, Heater Control Unit, of the Service Manual.

Heater Control Unit

Procedure

Remove

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

2. Gearshift control boot (manual transaxle vehicles), six screws and center console from vehicle.

3. Ashtray from ashtray guide by depressing spring loaded tab and pulling rearward.

4. Four screws and ashtray guide from center console.

5. Three screws and center console trim bezel.

6. Remove radio. Refer to Section 9A.

7. Remove heater control lever knobs from levers.

8. Three screws retaining instrument panel compartment door and remove door from instrument panel.

9. Four screws and instrument panel compartment inner panel from vehicle.

10. Two heater control unit mounting screws.

11. Disconnect blower speed selector switch electrical connector.

12. Disconnect A/C switch electrical connector (if equipped).

13. Disconnect temperature control cable, fresh/recirculate cable and mode control cable.

14. Remove heater control unit through instrument panel compartment opening.

Install

1. Heater control unit through instrument panel compartment opening.

2. Connect A/C switch electrical connector (if equipped).

3. Connect blower speed selector switch electrical connector.

4. Secure heater control unit with two screws.

5. Connect temperature control cable, fresh/recirculate cable and mode control cable.

6. Install radio. Refer to Section 9A.

7. Secure center trim bezel with three screws.

8. Heater control knobs.

9. Secure ashtray guide with four screws and then install ashtray.

Adjust - Heater control cables. Refer to "Heater Control Cables".

10. Secure instrument panel compartment inner panel with four screws.

11. Secure instrument panel compartment door with three screws.

12. Secure center console with six screws and install gearshift control boot.

13. Connect the negative (-) battery cable. Refer to Section 6D1.
