Seat Air Bag - Installation






INSTALLATION






WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supplemental restraint system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the supplemental restraint system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

NOTE: The following procedure is for replacement of an ineffective or damaged seat airbag. If the airbag is ineffective or damaged, but not deployed, review the recommended procedures for handling non-deployed supplemental restraints. . If the seat airbag has been deployed, review the recommended procedures for service after a supplemental restraint deployment before removing the airbag from the vehicle. .

1. Position the seat airbag housing (2) to the outboard side of the seat back frame.
2. Reconnect the seat wire harness connector (4) to the seat airbag inflator (3) connector receptacle. Be certain that the latch on the connector and the orange Connector Position Assurance (CPA) lock are each fully engaged.
3. Engage the two integral catch hook clips (1) at the front of the airbag housing into the two slots in the forward edge of the seat back frame.





4. Rotate the rear edge of the seat airbag unit (1) rearward and inward far enough to position the two stamped metal mounting brackets at the rear of the airbag housing to the back of the seat back frame (2).
5. Install and tighten the two screws (3) that secure the seat airbag to the back of the seat back frame. Be certain to reinstall the ground wire (4) eyelet under the lower screw. Tighten the screws to 2.5 Nm (22 in. lbs.).
6. Reinstall the trim cover onto the rear of the front seat back.

WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT THE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE. PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH MAY RESULT IF THE SYSTEM TEST IS NOT PERFORMED FIRST. FOR THE SYSTEM TEST, Supplemental Restraints Verification Test
