Valve Cover: Description and Operation

CAUTION: Exercise caution when servicing the cylinder head covers. If a cylinder head cover is damaged, the cylinder head must also be replaced. Do not rotate the engine without cam holding tool 9555 if the cylinder head covers are removed.

The 3.0L cylinder head covers are made of cast aluminum and incorporate a oil drain back hole for the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system. The covers serve as engine noise inhibitors and are specifically designed to act as the camshaft main caps and thrust washers. Care must be taken when sealing the covers, too much sealant or sealant installed improperly may effect camshaft main cap clearances.
