5000 - 5999: 5238

5238-BACKUP LAMP SWITCH STATE IMPLAUSIBLE

- When Monitored:
Continuously with the ignition on, one valid or implausible message received at least once.

- Set Condition:
When the Anti-Lock Brake Module detects an incorrect CAN message from the Backup Lamp Switch for approximately 200 mSec.





1. CHECK FOR DTC 5228-BACKUP LAMP SWITCH STATE IMPLAUSIBLE

NOTE: This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, record and erase DTCs in the ABM.
3. Cycle the ignition switch from off to on.
4. With the scan tool, read DTCs in the ABM.

Does the scan tool display: 5228-BACKUP LAMP SWITCH STATE IMPLAUSIBLE?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Perform the ABS-INTERMITTENT CONDITION TEST. Testing and Inspection.

2. CHECK DTCs IN THE ESM
1. With the scan tool, record and erase DTCs in the ESM.
2. Start the engine.
3. While firmly pressing the brake pedal, shift the transmission into Reverse.
4. Place the transmission in Park and turn the engine off.
5. Turn the ignition on.
6. With the scan tool, read DTCs in the ESM.

Does the scan tool display: 5228-BACKUP LAMP SWITCH STATE IMPLAUSIBLE?

Yes

- Go To 3

No

- Go To 4

3. ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE (ESM)
1. With the scan tool, program the Electronic Shift Module (ESM).
2. Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Verification Tests.
3. With the scan tool, read DTCs in the ESM.

Did DTC 5228-BACKUP LAMP SWITCH STATE IMPLAUSIBLE reset?

Yes

- Replace the Electronic Shift Module (ESM).
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Verification Tests.

No

- Test complete.

4. BACKUP LAMP SWITCH
1. Replace the Backup Lamp Switch.
2. Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Verification Tests.
3. Road test the vehicle.
4. With the scan tool, read DTCs in the ABM.

Did DTC 5228-BACKUP LAMP SWITCH STATE IMPLAUSIBLE reset?

Yes

- Replace the Anti-Lock Brakes Module.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Verification Tests.

No

- Test complete.
