5106-IMPLAUSIBLE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE MESSAGE RECEIVED
For a complete wiring diagram, Refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on and battery voltage greater than 10 volts.
- Set Condition:
The ECM detects that the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor input voltage is not within a specified range based on operating conditions.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting Procedure.
1. DTC IS ACTIVE
NOTE: Diagnose and repair any system voltage or sensor supply voltage DTCs before continuing with this test.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
3. Record all DTC and applicable Freeze Frame information.
4. With the scan tool, clear DTCs.
5. Cycle the ignition off for at least one minute.
6. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
WARNING: When the engine is operating, do not stand in direct line with the fan. Do not put your hands near the pulleys, belts, or fan. Do not wear loose fitting clothing. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal or fatal injury.
7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does this DTC reset?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the CHECKING FOR AN INTERMITTENT DTC Diagnostic Procedure.
2. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR WIRING AND CONNECTORS
1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Ambient Temperature Sensor and the Body Control Module.
2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
4. Inspect the Ambient Temperature Sensor for any condition that would result in an incorrect signal, such as damage, corrosion, or contamination.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST Verification Tests.
No
- Go To 3
3. AAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Ambient Temperature Sensor connector.
3. Disconnect the Body Control Module connector.
4. Measure the resistance between ground and the AAT Signal circuit in the Ambient Temperature Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance above 100 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the AAT Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST Verification Tests.
4. AAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
