51A6-FAULT PRESENT IN ENGINE CONTROLLER

- When Monitored:
Ignition on, engine running.

- Set Condition:
When the ECM recognizes an internal failure has occurred. One trip fault.





Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting Procedure.
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE
1. Check for any TSBs that may apply to this fault code.
2. Verify that the Engine Control Module is at the latest calibration level.
3. Check the Engine Control Module ground circuits with a test light connected to B+.
4. Check the Engine Control Module Fused B+ circuit with a test light connected to ground.
5. Check the Engine Control Module Main Relay circuits with a test light connected to ground.

Do the ECM power and ground circuits light the test light brightly.

Yes

- Replace and program the Engine Control Module.
- Perform the ECM VERIFICATION TEST Verification Tests.

No

- Repair the circuit for an open or shorted condition.
- Perform the ECM VERIFICATION TEST Verification Tests.
