REAR
The rear wiper arms are the rigid members located between the rear wiper motor output shafts that protrude from the outer door panels near the base of the rear door glass openings and the rear wiper blades. These wiper arms feature an over-center hinge that allows easy access to the rear door glass for cleaning. The wiper arm has a die cast metal pivot end (5) with a large tapered mounting hole at one end. A molded plastic pivot cover (7) is secured loosely to and pivots on the wiper arm hinge pin to conceal the wiper arm pivot end, the retaining nut and the washer nozzle hose connection.
The wide end of a tapered, stamped steel channel (8) hinges on and is secured with a hinge pin to the pivot end of the wiper arm. One end of a long, rigid, stamped steel strap (9), with a small hole near its pivot end, is riveted and crimped within the narrow end of the stamped steel channel. The tip of the wiper blade end of this strap has a stamped metal bracket (1) crimped onto it for securing the wiper blade. Concealed within the stamped steel channel, one end of a long spring is engaged with a wire hook on the underside of the die cast pivot end, while the other end of the spring is hooked through the small hole in the steel strap. The entire wiper arm has a satin black finish applied to all of its visible surfaces.
Near the wiper blade bracket of each wiper arm steel strap, a rear washer nozzle (2) is mounted with a clamshell-type retainer to the wiper arm. A U-shaped molded plastic guard (3) snaps onto the underside of the strap to conceal and protect the washer nozzle hose (4). A unique molded plastic hose fitting (6) connects the nozzle washer hose to the washer fluid supply through a fitting in the center of the rear wiper motor output shaft with a snap fit.
The rear wiper arms are not interchangeable. A wiper arm cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if ineffective or damaged, it must be replaced. The washer nozzle, nozzle hose, hose guard and hose fitting are available for individual service replacement.
