DESCRIPTION

All models are equipped with a common HVAC housing that combines A/C and/or heating capabilities into a single unit mounted within the passenger compartment.

The heating-A/C system is a blend-air type system. In this blend-air system, a blend-air door is used to control the amount of conditioned air that is allowed to flow through, or around the heater core. The temperature of the discharge air is varied by moving the blend-air door. This design allows an almost immediate control of the output air temperature of the system. When equipped with the automatic temperature control (ATC) system, an electric actuator is used. Manual temperature control (MTC) systems use a cable to operate the blend-air door.

The mode-air doors direct the flow of the conditioned air out the various air outlets (depending on the mode selected). When equipped with ATC, an electric actuator is used. MTC systems use a cable to operate the mode-air doors.

Vehicles equipped with A/C have a recirculation-air door. When RECIRC mode is selected, the recirculation-air door closes off the fresh air intake and recirculates the air already inside the vehicle. Both the ATC and MTC heating-A/C systems use an electric actuator to operate the recirculation-air door.

The blower motor controls the velocity of air flowing through the HVAC housing by spinning the blower wheel within the HVAC housing at the selected speed by use of the blower motor resistor block or power module (depending on application). The A/C system is designed for the use of a non-CFC, R-134a refrigerant and uses an A/C evaporator to cool and dehumidify the incoming air prior to blending it with the heated air.

The front HVAC housing cannot be adjusted or repaired and must be replaced if inoperative or damaged. The blower motor, blower motor resistor block or power module (depending on application), heater core, A/C evaporator and electric actuators are available for service replacement.
