Underbody Line







REMOVAL

WARNING: Review safety precautions and warnings in this group before performing this procedure and . Failure to follow the warnings and cautions may result in serious or fatal injury.





1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the rear refrigerant system .
3. If servicing the front portion of an underbody refrigerant line, disconnect the underbody line being serviced from the rear A/C compressor located in the engine compartment .
4. Remove the bolts (1) as necessary that secure the rear underbody suction line (2) or the rear underbody discharge line (4) from the front underbody suction line (6) or the front underbody discharge line (5) located at the right front frame rail.
5. Disconnect the underbody refrigerant hoses as necessary and remove and discard the O-ring seal(s).
6. Remove the fasteners (3) as necessary that secure the rear underbody suction line and the rear underbody discharge line to the frame rail.

7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove the bolt (3) that secures the rear underbody suction line (driver side) (2) or rear underbody discharge line (passenger side) to the interior refrigerant line (1) located near the front door entry area.
9. Disconnect the rear underbody line being serviced and remove and discard the O-ring seal (5).




10. If servicing the rear section of the underbody suction line (1), remove the nuts (2 and 4) that secure the underbody suction line and underbody heater lines (3), if equipped, to the driver side of the vehicle underbody.

11. If servicing the rear section of the underbody suction line, support the rear of the transmission with a suitable jack and remove the rear transmission crossmember from the vehicle underbody .
12. If servicing the underbody suction line when equipped with the 3.5L engine, remove the left catalytic converter and support bracket Catalytic Converter - Removal Catalytic Converter - Removal.
13. Remove the heat shields and heat shield brackets as necessary to gain access to the underbody refrigerant line being serviced.
14. If servicing the underbody suction line, remove the bolt (4) that secures the two sections of the underbody suction line (3 and 5) together at the left frame rail and disconnect the fittings and discard the O-ring seal.
15. If servicing the rear section of the underbody suction line, support the driver side of the engine cradle with a suitable jack and remove the two bolts that secure the rear of the engine cradle to the driver side of the underbody and carefully lower the rear driver side of the engine crossmember approximately 5 cm (2 in.).
16. Remove the fasteners (1) that secure the rear underbody lines being serviced and the rear heater lines (2), if equipped, to the underbody body.
17. If servicing the rear section of the underbody suction line, position the rear heater lines, if equipped, to allow removal of the underbody suction line.
18. Rotate and tilt the rear underbody lines as necessary to allow removal from the vehicle.
19. Install plugs in, or tape over all the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
