DESCRIPTION

The crankshaft position sensor is located at the left rear of the engine just above the starter motor. The crankshaft position sensor, which is a hall effect sensor, detects the crankshaft position by detecting the location of missing segments on the tone wheel, which is mounted to the flex plate. The electronic control module (ECM) detects TDC position of cylinder 1 with the crankshaft position sensor signal. Injection timing is synchronized according to the camshaft signal and the crankshaft signal. The crankshaft position sensor is also used to detect engine speed.
