Removal
REMOVAL
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supplemental restraint system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the supplemental restraint system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the cruise control switch from the steering column. .
3. Working through the access hole in the lower right surface of the steering column trim (3), remove the screw (2) that secures the multi-function switch (1), mounting bracket and trim to the tab on the top of the steering column housing.
4. Pull the multi-function switch, mounting bracket and steering column trim off of the top of the steering column as a unit.
5. Working from the back of the unit, remove the screws that secure the multi-function switch to the mounting bracket and the steering column trim.
6. Remove the multi-function switch from the steering column trim.
