Park Assist Sensor - Description

DESCRIPTION

Vehicles equipped with the park assist system have 10 park assist sensors (also known as ParkTronic System/PTS sensors) installed; 6 in the front bumper and 4 in the rear bumper. Only the membrane of each sensor is visible through a hole in the outer vertical surface of the bumper. The remainder of each sensor including the sensor mounting provisions and the sensor wiring connections are concealed behind the bumpers. The bumper wire harness behind the bumper connects the sensors to the vehicle electrical system.

Each of the sensors is identical in construction and is interchangeable. The electronic circuitry and a communication chip for each sensor is enclosed and protected within the molded plastic sensor housing. The housing includes an integral connector receptacle. The sensor membrane extends from the surface of the sensor housing, and is finished to match the outer surface of the bumper.

A resilient, tapered O-ring spacer around the circumference of the sensor membrane isolates the membrane from the openings in the bumper. Each sensor is secured within its own dedicated molded plastic receptacle on the back side of the bumper by a retaining strap and 2 latch tabs that are integral to each of the receptacles.

The park assist sensors cannot be adjusted or repaired. If ineffective or damaged they must be replaced. The sensors and the spacers are each available for individual service replacement.
