REMOVAL

WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supplemental restraint system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the supplemental restraint system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the driver side front seat from the top of the seat riser (3). .
3. Insert a finger into the pull hole (2) near the back of the seat riser cover (1) and pull the cover upward gently and evenly to disengage the tabs that secure the edges of the cover to the top of the seat riser.

4. Remove the three screws (2) that secure the module mounting strip (3) to the top of the inboard and outboard sides of the seat riser (1).
5. Disconnect the vehicle wire harness connectors from the connector receptacles on the top of the Programmable Special Module (PSM).
6. Reposition the module mounting strip (3) within the seat riser (1) for easiest access to the two screws that secure the PSM to the mounting strip.
7. Remove the two PSM retaining screws.
8. Remove the PSM from the vehicle.
