Theory of Operation
The Headlight Flasher / Brights switch input changes when the switch is in a forward or aft position. A stored DTC indicates that the Headlight Flasher / Brights switch was stuck in a forward or aft position for predetermined value of time, but has since returned to its normal state. An active DTC indicates that the Headlight Flasher / Brights switch is stuck in a forward or aft position. An active DTC will prevent proper Headlight Flasher / Brights switch and status indicator function.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.
- Set Condition:
If the Headlight Flasher / Brights switch stays in a forward or aft position for more than a predetermined value of time.
Diagnostic Test
1. VERIFY THAT THE DTC IS STILL ACTIVE
Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, erase SCM DTCs.
Move the Headlight Flasher / Brights Switch in a forward and aft position several times.
Turn the ignition off.
Turn the ignition on, wait 5 seconds.
With the scan tool, read SCM DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

- The condition that caused this symptom is currently not present. Check for an intermittent condition by inspecting the related wiring harness for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires. Also, inspect the related connectors for broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary.
- Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Verification Tests.
2. INSPECT FOR AN OBJECT OR SUBSTANCE CAUSING THE HEADLIGHT FLASHER / BRIGHTS SWITCH TO STAY OR STICK IN A FORWARD OR AFT POSITION
Inspect the Headlight Flasher / Brights Switch for anything that would cause the Headlight Flasher / Brights switch to stay or stick in a forward or aft position.
