Engine Oil Sensor Level Implausible

2040-ENGINE OIL SENSOR LEVEL IMPLAUSIBLE

For a complete wiring diagram Consult Diagrams/Electrical

- When Monitored:
With the engine running.

- Set Condition:
The Engine Oil Sensor indicates an implausible level value.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding.Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. ENGINE OIL SENSOR CIRCUITS OPEN

NOTE: Ensure the engine oil level is at the specified level and the engine oil filter is the specified filter for this specific engine application.

NOTE: The engine must be at operating temperature for this test.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect Engine Oil Sensor harness connector.
Disconnect Engine Control Module (ECM) harness connector.
Measure the resistance of each Engine Oil Sensor circuit (3) between the Engine Oil Sensor harness connector and the ECM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 10.0 ohms for each of the measurements?

Yes

- Go To2

No

- Repair the Engine Oil Sensor circuit(s) that measured above 10.0 ohms for an open.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test Ver. 1. Verification Tests

2. ENGINE OIL SENSOR CIRCUITS SHORT TO GROUND
Measure the resistance between ground and each of the Engine Oil Sensor circuits (3) at the Engine Oil Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance above 1000 ohms for each of the measurements?

Yes

- Go To3

No

- Repair the Engine Oil Sensor circuit(s) that measured below 1000 ohms for an short to ground.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test Ver. 1. Verification Tests

3. ENGINE OIL SENSOR CIRCUITS SHORT TO VOLTAGE
Remove the ASD Relay from the PDC.
Connect a jumper wire between cavity 30 and cavity 87 of the ASD Relay connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage between ground and each of the Engine Oil Sensor circuits (3) at the Engine Oil Sensor harness connector.
Is there voltage present on any of the circuits?

Yes

- Repair the circuit that measured voltage for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test Ver. 1. Verification Tests

No

- Replace the Engine Oil Sensor.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test Ver. 1. Verification Tests
