90FD-LEFT IMPACT SENSOR 1 AND RIGHT IMPACT SENSOR 1 MISMATCH

For a complete wiring diagram Consult Diagrams/Electrical.

Theory of Operation

The Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) supplies power to and communicates continuously with each impact sensor via each sensor's signal circuit. The power supply also enables each sensor's self-diagnostic capabilities. When powered up, the ORC establishes communication with each sensor by sending and receiving acknowledgement messages. As part of the communication the sensor manufacturer identification number is transmitted from the sensor to the ORC. The repair of this fault condition centers on confirming wiring, sensor, and module condition.

- When Monitored:
With the ignition on, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) establishes communication with each side impact sensor. Each sensor supplies the ORC with the sensors manufacturer identification number.

- Set Condition:
This DTC will set if the ORC receives manufacturer identification numbers from the Left and Right Side Impact Sensor 1 and they are not identical.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. .

Diagnostic Test

1. VERIFY THE ACTIVE DTC
NOTE: Ensure that the battery is fully charged.

Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, read ORC DTC.
SELECT ACTIVE or STORED DTC:

ACTIVE DTC

- Go To 2

STORED DTC

Perform *RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. .

Diagnostic Test

2. VERIFY THE SENSOR 1 MANUFACTURER
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.

Remove and inspect the Left and Right Side Impact Sensor 1 for manufacturer identification.

NOTE: Both Side Impact Sensors must be manufactured by the same company.

Both sensors must be manufactured by the same company.
Are both Side Impact Sensor 1 sensors built by the same company?

Yes

- Replace one or both Side Impact Sensor 1 sensors as needed to guarantee that both sensor were manufactured by the same company.
- Perform *RESTRAINT VERIFICATION TEST .Verification Tests

No

WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury.
Replace the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC).
- Perform *RESTRAINT VERIFICATION TEST .Verification Tests
