90C4-LEFT SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 2 CONNECTOR FAULT
For a complete wiring diagram Consult Diagrams/Electrical.
Theory of Operation
The Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) supplies power to and communicates continuously with each impact sensor via each sensor's signal circuit. The power supply also enables each sensor's self-diagnostic capabilities. When powered up, the ORC establishes communication with each sensor by sending and receiving acknowledgement messages. The repair of this fault condition centers on confirming wiring, sensor, and module condition.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.
- Set Condition:
This DTC will set if the module detects a connection failure at the Left Side Impact Sensor 2 or ORC connectors terminals related to the Left Side Impact Sensor 2. This code may occur in combination with other active DTC's.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. .
Diagnostic Test
1. VERIFY OTHER ACTIVE DTC
NOTE: Ensure the battery is fully charged.
Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, perform a ORC reset.
With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.
Look for active DTC's in the ORC
Are there any other active Left Side Impact Sensor 2 DTCs?
Yes
- Diagnose and repair the DTC's.
No
- Go To 2
2. VERIFY SENSOR CONNECTIONS
Turn the ignition OFF.
Verify Left Side Impact Sensor 2 connector is completely seated to sensor.
Verify the Occupant Restraint Controller connector is completely seated to the module.
With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.
Does the scan tool display an active: 90C4-LEFT SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 2 CONNECTOR FAULT?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair complete.
- Perform *RESTRAINT VERIFICATION TEST .Verification Tests
3. VERIFY SENSOR TERMINALS AND CONNECTORS
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.
Disconnect the Left Side Impact Sensor 2 connector.
Inspect the Left Side Impact Sensor 2 wiring harness for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires. Also, inspect the connectors for broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals.
Were any of the above conditions present?
Yes
- Repair or replace the Left Side Impact Sensor 2 and connector as necessary and.
- Perform *RESTRAINT VERIFICATION TEST .Verification Tests
No
- Go To 4
4. VERIFY ORC CONNECTIONS
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.
Disconnect the Occupant Restraint Controller connectors.
Inspect the ORC and sensor connectors for damage or corrosion.
Is the ORC connector terminals damaged or corroded?
Yes
- Repair or replace the ORC connector and terminals as necessary and.
- If the ORC terminals are corroded, replace the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC).
WARNING: If the airbag control module is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury.
- Perform *RESTRAINT VERIFICATION TEST .Verification Tests
