WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury during and following any seat belt or child restraint anchor service, carefully inspect all seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware, retractors, tether straps, and anchors for proper installation, operation, or damage. Replace any belt that is cut, frayed, or torn. Straighten any belt that is twisted. Tighten any loose fasteners. Replace any belt that has a damaged or ineffective buckle or retractor. Replace any belt that has a bent or damaged latch plate or anchor plate. Replace any child restraint anchor or the unit to which the anchor is integral that has been bent or damaged. Never attempt to repair a seat belt or child restraint component. Always replace damaged or ineffective seat belt and child restraint components with the correct, new and unused replacement parts listed in the DaimlerChrysler Mopar(R) Parts Catalog.
NOTE: The following procedure applies to the seat belt retractors used on any two-position or three-position rear passenger bench seat.
1. Position the rear seat belt and retractor (5) as a unit to the bracket on the rear seat cushion frame. Be certain to engage the tab on the retractor bracket into the locating slot of the seat frame bracket.
2. Install and tighten the screw (4) that secures the retractor to the seat frame bracket. Tighten the screw to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
3. Route the seat belt lower anchor (6), latch plate (1) and webbing (3) through the two turning loops (2) and the turning loop bracket at the top of the seat back frame. Be certain that the webbing between the retractor and the turning loops is not twisted.
4. Position the two bushings (3) and the two turning loops (20 to the turning loop bracket at the top of the seat back frame so that one of each is located behind the bracket and one of each is located in front of the bracket.
5. From the front of the turning loop bracket, insert the pivot pin (1) through both turning loops, both bushings and the bracket, then secure it from behind with a new push nut (4). Never reuse a push nut that has been removed.
6. Reinstall the cover (1) onto the back of the rear seat back frame (2).
7. Reinstall the trim cover and padding onto the rear seat back.
8. Route the webbing (2) of each seat belt through the turning loop trim covers (1) and position the covers over the turning loop brackets at the top of the seat back (4).
9. Install the plastic push pin fasteners (3) that secure the trim covers to the turning loop brackets.
10. Position each seat belt lower anchor (3) with two washers (2) and a spacer (1) to the rear seat cushion frame. The chamfered side of each washer is oriented so that it contacts the lower anchor. Be certain that the webbing between the turning loops and the lower anchors is not twisted.
11. Install and tighten the screws (4) that secure the lower anchors to the rear seat cushion frame. Tighten the screws to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
12. For the left outboard seating position only, reinstall the plastic trim cap (5) onto the screw that secures the lower anchor to the left outboard end of the seat cushion frame.
13. Reinstall the seat belt buckle onto the right outboard end of the rear seat.
14. Reinstall the molded plastic shield onto the back of the rear seat.
15. Reinstall the rear passenger bench seat into the vehicle.
