3130-INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR PLAUSIBILITY/PERFORMANCE
For a complete wiring diagram refer to Diagrams/Electrical.
When Monitored:
- With the ignition on.
Set Condition:
- The ECM detects that the Intake Air Temperature Sensor is implausible.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding.
1. DTC IS ACTIVE
NOTE: The engine should be off for at least 60 minutes prior to performing this test procedure.
Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
With the scan tool, compare the Intake Air Temperature Sensor to the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor.
NOTE: With the ignition on and engine not running the sensors should read within 10°C (50°F).
Does the Intake Air Temperature Sensor read within 10°C of the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor?
Yes
- Perform the INTERMITTENT DTC diagnostic procedure. Component Tests and General Diagnostics
No
- Go to 2
2. INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature Sensor harness connector.
Disconnect the Engine Control Module harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the Intake Air Temperature Sensor Signal circuit between the Intake Air Temperature Sensor harness connector and the Engine Control Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go to 3
No
- Repair the Intake Air Temperature Sensor Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test. ECM Verification Test
3. INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
Measure the resistance of the Intake Air Temperature Sensor Ground circuit between the Intake Air Temperature Sensor harness connector and the Engine Control Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the Intake Air Temperature Sensor Ground circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test. ECM Verification Test
No
- Go to 4.
4. INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
Replace the Intake Air Temperature Sensor.
Connect the Engine Control Module connector.
Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, compare the Intake Air Temperature Sensor to the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor.
Does the Intake Air Temperature Sensor read within 10°C of the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor?
Yes
- Test Complete.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test. ECM Verification Test
No
- Replace the Engine Control Module.
- Perform the ECM Verification Test. ECM Verification Test
