REAR PARCEL SHELF - VENT FOAM
DETERIORATING OR FALLING APART - BUILT ON

ISSUE
Some 2012-2013 Focus four-door sedan vehicles built on or before 2/9/2013 may exhibit vent foam deteriorating or falling apart on the parcel shelf.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the parcel shelf. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05.
2. Place parcel shelf on a protected surface with underside facing up.
3. Remove remaining foam and glue from around all air extractor vents. (Figure 1)
4. Using 3M(TM) Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive or equivalent, apply a 3 mm (1/8") bead to the parcel shelf around the perimeter and between the air extractor vents. Leave 6 mm (1/4") space between the edge of the vent and bead. (Figure 2)
5. Carefully line up cloth panel and apply across extractor vents. Lightly press around and between extractor vents to ensure adhesive bonds to the cloth. (Figure 3)
a. Do not allow adhesive to bleed onto visible cloth area between the extractors.
6. Install parcel shelf. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
